Unidentified hoodlums have burnt down the Ubani Market Police station in the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to Daily Trust, the armed men invaded the station in the early hours of Sunday the 5th of May 2021.
No life was lost in the incident as policemen had already vacated the police station days before the incident. It was learnt that the officers working in the station were moved to a station at nearby TradeMoore Housing Estate.
The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Abia State Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna could not be reached for comment over the incident through a phone call put to him.
This is the latest attack on a police facility since a campaign of violence was launched in the South-East by gunmen in which the Nigerian government has claimed to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous of Biafra (IPOB).
The lives of many security operatives have been cut short in the line of duty since the attacks started. Most recently, more than 10 police officers were killed on Saturday, between Rivers State and Akwa Ibom State.
